The US Senate is carrying on the impeachment trial of the President this week. I’m not sure how long the trial will last – this has only happened two other times in our history as a nation. I tire of watching the endless coverage on the various “news” channels of the debate. I emphasize “news” because I often wonder if the various channels are anything but propaganda mechanisms for the two major political parties. I’m not sure which one, but one of them even markets themselves as the “fair and balanced” coverage. I haven’t seen fair and balanced since the days of Walter Cronkite and Howard K. Smith – have you?
What’s happened? Where did the political culture go that was built on a biblical moral compass that few would challenge. In those long ago days there was a fear of God’s wrath and a great fear of public exposure for breaking any of the ten commandments such as lying, stealing, fornicating. In our current culture, the community doesn’t even raise an eyebrow when lying, stealing fornicating occur in our elected officials. Years ago, a leader would resign in disgrace if one of these became public – now they go on TV to spin their version of truth.
I ask again – what’s happened? Why is it that our culture has lost its sense of outrage at Democrats and Republicans when they have no reverence for God or his expectations. I think there is one clear answer - it’s because the culture has lost it’s sense of caring what God thinks, what God sees and what God’s response will be. The fear of God’s judgment and wrath is gone! Gone from the culture, but not gone from God. There is a price to be paid for disobeying God’s commands. The bible tells us that “there is a particularly high price for those in leadership for leading the flock astray”. With each succeeding generation growing further away from the church, the Gospel, and it’s truth the more tolerant we become of the ways of Satan and this world. From this pastor’s perspective, that’s what has happened. These developments were prophesied centuries ago. We’re studying these prophecy’s at Wednesday Nite Live as we study the book of Revelation – you should join us. We have a roll to play in this world and as many of the candidates say, “Let’s be Clear” – we can never be comfortable with the unacceptable. We are Christ’s light in the world today. Let’s live as though we are.
What do you think? Let’s chat it up.
Great love to you all.
